Turkey & Cheese Subwich

Today's lunch is a DIY - Subway Lunchable.
Everything what my kiddos would love to put in their sub.  I tried to put them all together, but I'm afraid that they might turn soggy by lunch time.  So we put all things on the side, but the TLC - turkey, lettuce and cheese.  No tomatoes and onions.

Not sure if I already mentioned that Mr G has started with his ortho appliance prior to the actual braces.  He has the palatal bar attached to his upper first permanent molars, with the bar across his palate.  We thought it was easy at first, but foods get caught on the bar, and is a nuisance for him.  Since then, I tried to cut food as bite-sized as possible so he could chew his food and lessen the chance of getting caught in there.

For a time he's been on soup-based meals.  Anything goes.  For one, he's not a very picky eater.  And secondly, he eats healthy by choice.  So his lunch tomato-based soups were mostly veggies and shredded meats to satisfy his proteins, carbs, and enough calorie to get by the day.  I will blog them, so you get the idea what he had on those days.

Now that he's over the transition stage, we're back to be eating normally.
Also, he has asked to eat cafeteria meals with his friends on some days, which I allowed.
So he wouldn't feel that he's missing out so much.

Out & About

Our mornings were spent on the road mostly with several appointments my dad was hooked up this day.  I got to drive him so the kids had to come. I thought yesterday would be my last day to pack lunches.  I guess once you've started, you can never stop. Normally we would just lounge in a restaurant/fast food for breakfast and lunch.  But with dad's health issues, we just have to be cautious on what he eats.
These were what I packed for the kids since we left pretty early with their eyes still closed.  I purposely packed hefty to last till pre-lunch.  Just in case. Each one had 2 hotdogs (sliced), apple slices, corn kernels, brownies and ketchup on smidgets. My boy had a doggie lunch pick, while my girl had a kitty lunch pick.
My dad and I each had Tuna Salad Sandwich and apple halves. It was meant for breakfast only after his laboratory tests since dad was on 12H fasting.  And we just ate home after all his appointments were done.

Brown Rice, Brown Rice, What Do You See?

Happy faces and satisfied tummies!

Our very first meal with the brown rice.  I have to make it special so the introduction of a new grain won't be a pain. The kids loved it and so did we.  Now my worries are eased off.  I must say this is a good start of a healthy life for all of us.

The taste isn't bad at all. It's contrary to what I was told. I actually love it! It's fulfilling and satisfying, and it's light on the tummy.  I say, you must try it first before you even say no to a promising grain.

On this day, I have officially switched all our non-grains to whole wheat. And that is that!
