Bento Weekly - Round 8

This week I am introducing another veggie to my son.  As you may notice, I have done it every other day and in small increments.  Gradually increasing the serving size, so as not to make him sick of eating it.  If you remember, a few weeks ago, I introduced Edamame to him.  If I wasn't mistaken it lasted for almost 3 weeks until he learned to eat it all by itself.  This time it would be zucchini.  So far he's been responsive whenever we try new food item in his school bentos.  He usually would suggest how he wants it in his lunch and how much.  And I give in to that request, as long he comes back with an empty lunchbox and a filled tummy.

12/6 (Monday): Hotdog Crescents, Hash brown,
a few Zucchinis on a pool of corn kernels, and grapes.
12/7 (Tuesday): Chicken and Vegetable Spring rolls with ketchup on smidget,
broccoli and corn.
12/8 (Wednesday): My green bento!
Steamed Gyoza with a few broccoli on several zucchinis,
and kiwi slices.
12/9 (Thursday): Chicken Nuggets & BBQ sauce on smidget,
corn kernel and red grapes.
12/10 (Friday) Another home-made pizza bagel with mandarin orange
and carrot slices with ranch.

Salo-Salo

Part 1: Family First

My daughter is turning 5 on the 5th.  We are not exactly throwing a big party but we are celebrating it thrice.  Saturday would be strictly for family members only.  We love doing this so we could bond and unwind together.  Family gathering for us on special occasions is a pleasant celebration.  It's our wonderful way of catching up on each other with the company of good foods.  My kids are not overwhelmed and distracted to eat.  Thus, we all part with happy tummies.
We love authentic foods when we're celebrating.  We visited Salo-Salo of West Covina this time.  It's one of the most authentic and most delicious Filipino cuisine we could ever find in town.  If you're celebrating occasions, this is one of the best places to go.  They have a wide variety of dishes on their menu from appetizers to desserts, up to their beverages.  The ambiance is good, and the service is exceptionally fast.

SuperPretzel

On my quest to find new items for my bento lunches, I have stumbled upon this at Target's refrigerated sections.  I was honestly looking for mini corndogs but they were out.  Glad I looked really good coz i found these instead.  My children are big fans of pretzels so I know that these will be a big hit.  I just needed to modify their soft pretzels a bit.  It's a little way too bland for my girl.  She wanted more flavor to it.  So I made an apple cinnamon glaze to drizzle over her pretzels.  And that absolutely did the trick.  I love their Cinnamon Streusel Softstix for breakfast.  It's a great companion for coffee drinkers.  It's like cinnamon buns, but in the form of a pretzel.  And the boys can't get enough of their Pretzelfils for snacks.  I'd definitely keep my freezer stocked with SuperPretzels.  It's a great when you're in a rush.  It's ready under a minute.

Check out Super Pretzel for more product informations.

Bento Weekly - Round 7

Monday (11/28): Jumbo Sushi rolls, corn kernels on a stick,
and Asian Pears.
Tuesday (11/29): Spaghetti, baked cheese crackers and red grapes.
Wednesday (11/30): Breaded Chicken cutlets with BBQ on smidgets,
steamed shrimp with mayo on smidgets, carrots slices and red grapes.
Thursday (12/1): Turkey Crescents, corn kernels and kiwi slices.
For this I tried Pillsbury's refrigerated crescent rolls & turkey deli.  No cheese but you can add one.  They'll taste heavenly.  But my boy is not in the mood for cheeses this week.  Separate the doughs into 8 triangular dough, place the deli on the dough, roll and bake at 350 degrees F for 15-19 minutes.  Personally, I love this!  You can add any other fillings to this.  A great alternative to the traditional sandwiches and tortilla wraps.  They bake into a bakery quality crescents.
Friday (12/2):  This a teriyaki beef sushi rolls.  A good way to eat rice and beef with the  use of your fingers.  Easy and no mess lunch for kids who are always in a hurry to play.  Buttered green beans, carrot chips and red grapes on the side.

Pillsbury Crescent Rolls

Honestly, the start of this week went pretty rough for me.  I just felt sick with all the lunches I'm preparing.  And it just seems that my son weren't that interested anymore.  Until I went for more grocery shopping on Tuesday morning after I dropped him off in school.  I window shopped on the frozen dinners to give me ideas on what to pack, but make it home-made.  I noticed that mostly are noodles, rice, cold pizza, stuffed pie, hotdogs,  and delis.  It's just a matter of which veggie or fruit sides you prefer. That's when I came up with the refrigerated crescent doughs, and the rest just happened.

I love crescent rolls because it gives you endless possibilities of whipping up lunches and dinners for your loved ones.  It's easy and delish!

Here's what I sent my son for his school lunch.  Honey baked turkey.  I got a loving-hug when he came back home.  He said he had the greatest lunch ever.
That's what he usually says whenever he loved what I sent him.
And when he didn't like it, he'll tell me that he had a boring lunch :(

Glad he hasn't said that yet this school year.

And what other possibilities can crescent rolls make?  Here's some ideas:
Chicken Salad Crescent
Ham and Cheese Crescent and you can go to
www.pillsbury.com for more recipe ideas.
Hotdog and Cheese Crescent
Cheese Crescent Triangles
These are only a few of what I think would hit our household.  I've seen vegetarian fillings for crescents too and lots of yummy recipes to try.  You may visit their site and explore.  Also, check on Pillsbury for coupons as well before you head out to the market.  They have all the printables on their site.  Happy crescent-making!
