Mini Pancake Star Bites

I am honestly getting bored of my lunches and thought of putting out the cutters, and try our hands (my girl's) on it once again.  It's fun making lunches with your kids.  Have you tried it yet?

Lunch below is made with a lot of help from my little fairy princess, Missy A. She makes food with a magical touch.

She requested for pancakes. And she wants them bite-sized.  So, we thought of cutting them with her choice of mini cutter to go into her Lunchbots Trio.  And it's STAR for that matter. She's addicted to STARs because it's what makes up a wand of a fairy.  She  wanted to put a toothpick on them, but it wouldn't fit right on this box.  SO we'll make them on a different box next time.

On her Lunchbots Trio, we packed mini star pancakes with maple syrup on the yellow mini cup, strawberries on the left compartment, and hotdog wheels on a stick and a ketchup on the pink mini cup.  We have also included a pink mini fork for her to eat her pancakes with.

Also, we made our pancakes from scratch. We like it better that we can control the type of ingredients that goes into our system. Currently, we are on search of hotdog products that could come close to nitrate-free, all-natural and organic meat brand.  My children can't live without hotdogs, so I gotta find something safer and healthier. I heard of Applegate, have you?  I am getting in touch with them and see if they could end my search.  Would let you know :)

Let's find ways to pack lunches FUN and healthy for our family.

School Lunches: Pancakes & Flippers

Today Missy A had requested pancakes (cubed with the use of FunBites Cube It) with maple syrup for lunch along with strawberries and some goldfish for side treats. She also had Rice Krispies for a yummy mid-morning snack. Guess what? This is actually working out just fine. She came home with a clean lunchbox and a content tummy.  No headaches. and just ready for a proper lunch with me.
Mr G isn't so picky about lunch anymore. He has gotten better over the years of bringing home-packed meals. I thought this would be the time to add a little bit of appeal on his lunch, but not too cute for him to back-off. Last Summer I had the chance to hoard sandwich cutters, picks and muffin silicone cups from my BBF buddies.  So thanks to them who went out of their way to get things from their nearby cake/bento shops for all of us who have no decent access to such.
For his lunch, I made use of Flipperbytes sandwich cutter. He had Ham Sandwich with a cheddar cheese on top.  He also had sweet snap peas and mandarin oranges.  All packed in our favorite Easy Lunchboxes. He seem to be happy with this lunch, only he lost time finishing all of it. I guess he was pretty distracted of all the wonderful colors of Goldfish surrounding his flippers.
Easy Lunchboxes are currently out of stock, but you can still place your order and will be delivered as soon as they're stocked up by mid-September.  Or you may enter for a chance to win your very own over here.  In case, you haven't known yet, I'm holding a giveaway which will end by September 16.
Have a good Tuesday!

Summer Mealtime: Inspired by The Magic School Bus and the Shark Adventure

My kids are huge fans of The Magic School Bus Series. Big G started reading those series back in Kindergarten, and still enjoys it now that I'm reading it to his Sissy.  Since I have the right tools in hand, we decided to make a breakfast the following day to talk more about it.  And further connect with the story.

I would have to thank an amazing fellow bento blogger, Keitha from Keitha's Chaos, for inspiring me to make lunches out of the books we read. My children are voracious readers, and I'd like to inspire them better by making meals out of it.  But you see, mama's not a food artist, as my fellow Bento Bloggers & Friends. I just try to put together healthy lunches and make them appear as appealing as it could be.  So bare with me.

Ms. Frizzle and her class were painting a big picture of the ocean life, when Keesha asked if she could paint a mermaid's purse. Unknown to all, Ms. Frizle decided to take the class on a trip to the ocean to find out what a Mermaid's Purse is all about. Turns out those are shark egg cases.

So here's the lunch I made for both of them, which reminded them of the whole MSB trip with Ms. Frizz, as she's fondly called by the class.

Summer Mealtime: Under The Sea

If you have been reading my blog, I'm sure that you already know that I have an incoming kindergartner who's quite picky with foods school lunches.  To be honest, I have been on the internet as much as I could to find the most adorable lunches I could that would work for my little girl to encourage her to eat in school.  I didn't have issues with her when she was in preschool because the preschool served healthy warm lunches. Thus, she eats what everyone's eating.   So this summer I have taken the opportunity that I could to practice several bento skills I need to learn for the following school year.

I made an under the sea breakfast today.
Sissy had 3 fishes cut from 1 sandwich bread,
and 2 octopuses (as Cute Foods for Kids call them).
I cut some Nori sheets for seaweeds background, which my kids love
to have in every meal.  I also found a good tutorial on how to make an octopus
out of hotdogs thru Cute Foods For Kids which can be found here.
Big G had 2 dolphins cut from 2 sandwich breads,
and 3 octopuses. With similar ingredients for the seaweed and background.
If you notice I lack eyes and mouth for the octopuses.  That's because we run out of big straws that can cut the right dimensions. Next time I'll show a better picture for you.
I even forgot to place hat picks for him since he was in a rush to dig into this.
But everyone's happy and didn't even notice what I did.

I hope you enjoyed this post!

~Marie
